Abstract
One of the topics that is currently fundamental in physics is gauge symmetry, which has been gaining momentum since the second half of the 20th century, and is now the basis on which some new theories in physics are based, such as the physics of elementary particles.
Gauge symmetry arises in 1918 with Hermann Weyl, however, this theory did not have great acceptance among scientists of the time, since its geometric meaning was not understood in the best way, leaving aside the scope that it could bring with itself, no However, it lasted in time due to the fact that Hermann Weyl found in Maxwell's electromagnetic theory the strongest support of his mathematical structure through the concept of electromagnetic four-potential in which he observed an adjustment factor that was at the base of the fundamental idea of its mathematical structure.
In this sense, the degree work aims to make a historiographic analysis around the emergence of gauge symmetry during the first third of the 20th century and how this symmetry makes its way into electromagnetic theory around the vector potential, presenting in the first chapter a context historical in which its emergence is treated, in the second chapter the importance of the vector potential is observed together with the adjustment term in electromagnetic theory, documenting how this mathematical entity allows us to understand the primary idea of gauge symmetry, finally in the third chapter, a synthesis is made around the importance of this approach for the learning of modern physics, reaching that the study of the vector potential would open one of the ways for a transition from classical physics to modern physics in a structured and enjoyable way, by opening a wide range of topics that start from what is supposed to be the most worked in a course of classical electromagnetism
